NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR FOR CLIMATE EDUCATION NONPROFIT
Alliance for Climate Education Taps Sarah Shanley Hope for Leadership Position
Oakland, Calif., June 4, 2012 - Alliance for Climate Education (ACE), a national nonprofit that provides climate education and action programs to schools, today announced that Sarah Shanley Hope will join the organization as its new executive director. Shanley Hope, an experienced leader in the nonprofit sector and business, is currently the Chief Development Officer of Green for All.
"Combine Sarah's experience and approach with the direction ACE is heading, and we couldn't have asked for a better fit. Her passion, skill and drive will help us build an organization that will not only fill in the gaps in climate science education for millions of students, but inspire them to take action" said Michael Haas, ACE founder and chairman of the board.
Shanley Hope draws on more than a decade of nonprofit, leadership and strategy experience. At Green For All, she grew the organization's funding base and evolved its positioning. Prior to Green For All, she served as a corporate brand manager at Cargill, as a consultant to a range of non-profit, corporate and public sector clients, and as an individual gifts coordinator for the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights.
Shanley Hope will replace Pic Walker, who has been the Executive Director since 2009. During his tenure, ACE has reached over 1.3 million students. Walker will remain involved with ACE, assisting in the transition and as part of the board of directors. Shanley Hope will officially take over the role at ACE on July 8.
"I'm excited by the mission, approach and vision of ACE, let alone joining at this time when ACE is so poised for significant impact and growth," said Shanley Hope. "Imagining what ACE offers at scale is profound: youth getting the science education they deserve, the experience they need to be leaders, and social bonds that will help them shape their future for the better."
Shanley Hope received a Masters of Business Administration in Marketing and Social Entrepreneurship from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Vassar College.
