Shreya Indukuri and Daniela Lapidous attended an ACE Assembly at the Harker School in San Jose, CA, during their freshman year. Inspired by what they learned, the girls formed an ACE Action Team, applied for and won an ACE Action Grant and used the funds to install smart meters at their school.

Their work helped Harker reduce its carbon footprint and lower it's energy bill by 13%. Shrey and Daniela went on to found their own nonprofit, SmartPowerEd.org, to help other schools save energy and money.

This lead them to the White House, where they spoke with Chief Technology Officer Aneesh Chopra and Arun Majumdar, the director of ARPA-E (an innovative energy research department of the government) about the future of energy. In addition to these meetings, Shreya and Daniela spoke about SmartPowerEd at Powershift 2011, the Clinton Global Initiative and on a grid modernization panel with Secretary Steven Chu.
