High School and College Students Unite for Climate Rights

Written by Victoria Pan from Ridgewood High School in Ridgewood, New Jersey.

On Tuesday, May 10, a very special event happened between two school campuses. Students from Bergen Community College’s Green Team marched from their campus in Paramus, New Jersey to my high school in Ridgewood, carrying signs and chanting slogans about ending pollution. Once they arrived to Ridgewood High School, our Students for Environmental Action (SEA) club joined the Green Team in their efforts to raise their voices about climate change. It was two schools, a few dozen students, and one goal—to motivate our generation to move forward toward a more sustainable future.

This march was part of an even bigger weeklong series of marches organized around the world in a movement called “iMatter.” It was started by a teen my age, Alec Loorz, who wanted to encourage people of our generation to take a stand against fossil fuels. It was really inspiring to see all the involvement happening around me, and I felt great to be a part of it…

Pro Snowboarder Talks Climate Change

Nate Holland – 5 times X Games gold medalist and US Olympic team snowboarder – joined ACE and Protect Our Winters for an assembly at Basalt High School, in Colorado.

Where does your electricity come from?

As you read this blog on the internet, which connects us all around the globe, many of us are still blind to the fact that half of our electricity in our country still comes from a technology that was introduced in the nineteenth century: coal.

Last night, I saw a film called Dirty Business: “Clean Coal” and the Battle for Our Energy Future, consulted and narrated by Rolling Stone reporter Jeff Goodell, which asks these crucial questions: “Can coal ever really be made “clean”? If we were to try to wean ourselves off coal, how would we keep the lights on? Is renewable energy ready for prime time? Is Carbon Capture and Storage really a viable option financially and environmentally?

(Not) Waiting on the World to Change

“It’s hard to be persistent when we’re standing at a distance, so we keep on waiting on the world to change…”

What does John Mayer have to do with anything? Well, he brought this blog post upon himself when he decided to debut one of my favorite songs, Waiting on the World to Change, in 2006.

Honestly, whenever I hear this song, my mind is unfailingly drawn to global warming. Here’s why…

Put a Cap on it !?!

A new rule has just took effect last month…its called the “New Greenhouse Gas Reporting Rule“. Well the purpose of this is to reduce the tons of carbon and heat-trapping gases being released by all of our factories. This rule will effect 1,200 factories, excluding the agriculture sites which were excused from this rule by a directive from Congress…

Any factory that releases …
