The True Meaning of an Action Team

Your Action Team is more than a club. Its true meaning is far beyond these two definitions. An Action Team should be a group of friends. Better yet, it’s a family who desire to accomplish individual goals to fulfill the group’s purpose.

Avalanche of Awesomeness

I had one of the best days in the history of the workplace on Friday. It was one of those days where the stars aligned and everything fell into place. It seemed that nothing bad could happen – almost (I didn’t get the book I wanted from the library). These days make all of the difficult and challenging days worth it.

iMatter, You Matter, We Matter

“iMatter, You Matter, We Matter. Let’s work together to make things better”

Two thousand Colorado youth and their adult allies sang this chant through downtown Denver this past Saturday, May 14, as part of the worldwide iMatter marches organized by Alec Loorz, founder of Kids vs. Global Warming. “The atmosphere created by this group of young, driven, and passionate future leaders was very unique and like nothing I’ve ever experienced before,” said Marissa Bramlett, a senior at New Vista High School in Boulder.

Alex Goetz from Lakewood High School is a freshman at the beginning stages of organizing an ACE action team at his school. “I feel empowered from the march; it was a great idea.” He and his fellow action team students were among the eight action teams from all over Colorado who marched under a homemade ACE banner at the front of a line of approximately 2000 marchers.

We braved the drizzle and rain to hear our voices reverberate off underpasses and to cheer at the sound of honking cars as they sat at stoplights waiting for our enthusiastic bunch to pass.

Aaron Fox, a member of New Vista’s Earth Task Force, joined the march along with the rest of his Action Team in their super hero costumes and with a sign made out of completely recycled materials.

During the first Colorado Training of the year Solar Energy International brought out the fat suit to demonstrate that anything that is operated on battery power can be operated with solar energy. Noah Davis coordinator of Solar in the Schools broke it down for us…

Colorado students speak up for climate action

On December 1st, citizens of Colorado gathered on the steps of the Denver Capital as a part of a national day of action. There, people from all walks of life called upon world leaders to take action on climate change at the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (COP 16).

During the event, Alex Budd, a senior at Fairview High School in Boulder, Colorado spoke to invigorate hope and action in Colorado citizens.

“Everyday we hesitate and fail to act is a day lost and the consequences grow continually more severe. We need action now. Not tomorrow, but tonight…”
