This is a guest post from Grace Jentsch, sophomore at Random Lake High School, and part of our Spring Into Action blog series.

Grace PicHello all! I am eager to tell you about my school’s 2nd annual Green Health and Nutrition Fair coming up on April 20th, this Saturday. It’s going to be tons of fun! First of all, I’m extremely excited for my booth where I will showcase my recycled fashion designs to be featured in the upcoming ACE Project Greenway fashion show in Chicago. My design, and another green design entry from our school, will be on display for the community to enjoy at the fair, before being modeled in the runway show on May 11th. I’m featuring a plastic shopping bag dress and a group of lovely Freshmen ladies are making a dress made from Capri Sun packages.

There will be amazing project booths from all the Earth Science students (Freshmen) and all of the Anatomy students (Seniors), along with booths from community businesses, organizations and school clubs: Science Club, Project Green, and the Relay 4 Life club. All of the booths are interactive this year, too, which should be amazing.

costumesLook for tons of activities, such as: a cycling demo, rock climbing, zumba, veggie bowling, raffles for a high quality bicycle, and more. In addition, there will be loads of food options like smoothies, turkey burgers and local artisan items. If you happen to make it to the event, look out for our teachers dressed up in lots of the fun costumes like: carrots, apples, bananas, toothbrushes, teeth and many more.

This event wouldn’t have been possible without the major support of our amazing teachers, Mr. Aprill and Mr. Giordano, and strong student leadership at our school.

That’s all for now, but watch for an update after our green fashion designs win first place on May 11th in Chicago at the Project Greenway Eco-Fashion show.

Check out the Project Greenway Lookbook on Pinterest for more eco-fashion inspiration, and the TEENSummit webpage to get more information.
