Announcing our National Winner for Biggest Loser: Energy

We’ve been announcing the of our competition for Spring 2012 over the last few days. After days of creative projects and big CO2 accomplishments, it’s hard to keep being impressed, right?

Unless you meet the winning Action Team:

They impressed us with their very active team, their attitude as well as the amount of CO2 saved. Are you ready?

16,165 pounds of CO2 in 15 days

That’s so awesome. Let’s write it one more time:

16,165 pounds of CO2

That’s more than 16k pounds of CO2 eliminated that would have gone straight towards knocking our global climate systems out of whack.

That’s 11,973 kilowatts of electricity they saved through measurement, taking action and encouraging their teachers and fellow students to take small actions.

That’s $1,197 of energy costs in two weeks that the California-based school saved, as Lizeth their ACE Ambassador observed, in the midst of a statewide and school budget crisis in California.

That’s… incredible. And that’s what ACE is all about.

“This is very exciting for our school & students. It proves Margaret Meads’ quote ‘Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.’ The Chaffey JUHS District is committed to saving money by reducing our electrical bills and recently installed low wattage ballasts & lights in all classrooms and offices in our District,” says Marla White Chaffey, advisor to Chaffey High School Action Team

Chaffey Tigers have started on a pathway to reduce their carbon footprints. They truly serve as Environmental stewards for our community and planet. I am very proud of these fine young people and the participation by staff to make a difference.

Is it going to take our young people to show our leaders how to reduce our carbon footprint and reliance on fossil fuels in order to decrease global warming?
