Media Alert: ACE Teams with X Games to Spread the Word on Climate Change

March to the X Games Kicks Off with Assemblies at Aspen Area High Schools

** EVENTS ARE CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC, BUT OPEN TO INVITED MEDIA – RSVP IS REQUIRED IN ADVANCE **

Assembly Event Details:
According to the World Meteorological Organization, 2009 is likely to rank as the fifth hottest year ever recorded, which also caps off the hottest decade ever recorded.  Scientists overwhelmingly agree that the planet is warming up—and that the effects will likely be dangerous.  To bring awareness to this issue, the Alliance for Climate Education (ACE), a national nonprofit that presents climate change education programs to youth, has teamed with ESPN’s Winter X Games to get the word out about climate change to Roaring Fork Valley area high school students to ensure there’s always snow to shred for the next generation.

ACE’s Denver-based educator, Bridget Jankovsky, a former member of the CU Freestyle Ski Team, will present lively interactive multimedia presentations that feature science that sticks. At some presentations, Bridget will be joined by X Games athletes, including elite trick snow-boarders Megan Olenick and Spencer O’Brien.. The presentations address:
•    The science behind climate change, illuminated with cutting-edge visuals
•    Potential consequences of climate change—if we do nothing
•    Powerful stories about carbon-reducing projects led by teens and inspired by ACE
•    A call for students to start making a difference in their own lives and communities

We invite you to join ACE and X Games to join us at the following upcoming events to learn more about the “cool” ways the organizations are reaching out to youth to make a difference, including fun graphics, texting, Facebook and more.
