What’s your favorite part about working in Colorado?

What's not to love about this state - 300 days of sunshine, the mountains, and the amazing energy that our students, teachers and partners are creating. across the state. Plus, ACE gets to be part of the solution that is working to energize students to act in their schools to combat climate change.

What’s the most inspiring student project you’ve worked on in Colorado?

I'm consistently blown away by the power our students have to create change. I want to give special props to the Greeley Central GreenCates, New Vista High School Earth Task Force, Vista Academy High School Triple-G, Compass Montessori VIBE, Denver School of Science & Technology Eco-bots and Fairview High School Action Team. I also want to highlight St. Mary's Environmental Club for their work reducing waste at theri high school. (Check out this video for the full story.)

Region Specific Climate info

Learn more about the specific impacts of climate change in Colorado

  • The mountain pine beetle is the most obvious face of climate change in Colorado. Longer growing seasons and less harsh winters have increased their extent and subsequent devastation in the Rocky Mountains.
  • The warmer temperatures will affect our winter recreation with less total days for skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing.  This will also affect the Colorado economy since so much of our revenue comes from tourism and snow sports.
  • Our beautiful alpine friends such as the pika and marmot have been forced to move to higher elevation as the state heats up.  We only have 14,000 feet of elevation gain in the state. After that, there will be no place for them to go!
