johanna.degraffenreid@climateeducation.org
Johanna brings to ACE nearly six years of professional experience in youth education and empowerment. Her professional background ranges from working as a substitute teacher within DC Public Schools, hands on farm and nutrition education through the Neighborhood Farm Initiative, to living and working on a rural orphanage in Les Cayes, Haiti. Johanna’s environmental organizing foundation was formed during a fellowship at Greenpeace USA in the spring of 2009. She is thrilled to combine her two passions of working with youth and ending catastrophic climate change!
Originally hailing from North Carolina, Johanna graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with honors in the programs of Gender Studies and Political Science. A recipient of the Sally & Allen Cone award during her senior year she academically focused on the history and institutionalization of social movements in the United States.
During her free time she splits her attention between sustainable farming practices, riding her single-speed bike, putting her EMT skills to good use, and supporting local music.
